City set up potential title showdown at Eastlands as they win and United throw away two-goal lead to draw 4-4 with Everton

In a first half where Manchester City totally dominated possession against Wolves, they only managed to score once.

The goal itself started with a cheeky nutmeg from Gael Clichy; followed by an inch perfect ball to Sergio Aguero, who finished comfortably to give the visitors the lead.

Wolves did work hard looking for the equaliser and, in doing so, Joe Hart made an excellent save to deny Steven Fletcher. Samir Nasri was the second scorer of the day, sending City within three points of their title rivals. Carlos Tevez provided the assist for the Frenchman, who slotted the ball calmly past De Vries in the Wolves goal.

City will need to be firing on all cylinders to beat United next week. Sir Alex has been here many many times and his team will be desperate to contain their rivals. The script has been set up perfectly for Tevez to score the title winning goal against his old club, and so the saga goes on.

Manchester United’s below-par performance today has set up a crackerjack title decider, allowing Everton to fight back from 4-2 down to draw 4-4 in an incredible encounter at Old Trafford.

Nikica Jelavic opened the scoring with a very clever header just after the half hour mark, sparking United into life. The home side turned up the heat and, less than ten minutes later, Wayne Rooney headed Nani’s cross to make it 1-1 at the break.

It looked like the Old Trafford normality was taking course: Danny Welbeck grabbed the second, and moments later, Nani gave the home side a two-goal cushion.

Game over? You would have thought so. Minutes later, Marouane Fellaini sent the Everton fans wild with a volley from Tony Hibbert’s cross but, yet again, United went two clear with Rooney slotting home the fourth.

The impressive Jelavic took advantage of sloppy defending from Rio Ferdinand and Jonny Evans to reduce the deficit to one, before Steven Pienaar collected Fellaini’s assist to level the scores, adding an amazing twist to the title race.
