Tonight, at the Jack Reacher: Never Go Back London premiere in Leicester Square, we caught up with Tom Cruise, Cobie Smulders, director Edward Zwick and author Lee Child.

Four years ago Cruise exceeded expectations when he brought to the screen literary action hero Jack Reacher, the protagonist of twenty books by Lee Child. The adventures of the lonely ex-military investigator are now set to become a franchise as Cruise reprised the role for the second instalment.

At the European premiere crowds eagerly awaited the Hollywood super star and were not disappointed, as he willingly greeted them all, signing autographs for over an hour for the hundreds of fans. Cruise spoke to us about his relationship with Jack Reacher, the only role he has ever revisited aside from Mission: Impossible‘s Ethan Hunt, and he revealed to us what first attracted him to Reacher’s world. He shared his excitement in playing again Jack Reacher, and the gratification in connecting with the film’s and book series’ audience.

Cobie Smulders, who plays the tough Susan Turner, told us how she felt about playing a strong female lead who is the protagonist’s equal, and she also discussed her upcoming projects.

Director Edward Zwick spoke of the messages of the film and its feminist leanings, and told us of the challenges of making a sequel when he hasn’t directed the first movie.

Finally, the best-selling author himself, Lee Child, gave us an insight into the dynamics between his characters, and he also spoke of his upcoming work, the latest of the Jack Reacher series.
