We love turbans: Versatile headwear for the warmer months

Summer is quickly approaching, and for many women with cancer-related hair loss, wigs can be sweaty and uncomfortable. Fortunately, there are other perfectly fitting options, and we are here to talk about one of our favourites: women’s turbans. Let’s take a look at all the reasons to love turbans.

They are endlessly stylish

Turbans come in just about any colour, fabric, and design you can imagine. Wearing that little black dress? Spice it up with an intricate print or a bold colour choice. When wearing designs, go for a complementary solid colour.

They are comfortable

Turbans for cancer patients are stitched with as few seams as possible, reducing the risk of irritation to an already sensitive scalp. They are soft enough to sleep in, and when the weather gets chilly, they can double as a hat liner for head coverings that would otherwise be uncomfortable.

They require no skill

Turbans are the “ready-to-wear” of the head coverings world. Many turbans simply slip over the head and are good to go. For those more dexterous, some turbans have a wrap-around option and can be tied in a stylish knot.

They are easy to care for

Unlike most wigs, turbans are wash and go. A quick hand-wash in cold water with mild detergent is sufficient, and line drying usually only takes a few hours. Some turbans are able to be tumble dried on a low delicate setting, but always check the care label first.

They work with any lifestyle

The beauty of turbans is that they are conducive to any activity level. Your energy will ebb and flow through treatment, and your turban is right there with you no matter what activity you take on. From the grocery store to the bike trail, turbans take it all in stride.

They can be dressed up

Turbans are super versatile because they can always be accessorized! Adding a hat pin, brooch, or headband can turn a plain turban into a work of art. Don’t be afraid to experiment! Turbans are also easy to use with hair halos or detachable bangs to create the look of hair without having to wear a wig.

They are cool

No, not that kind of cool (although they are). A turban in a moisture-wicking material draws sweat away from the scalp, leaving you with a cool, dry scalp as the temperature rises.

If wigs aren’t your thing, or if you’re just looking for a cooler alternative for summer, take a turban for a test drive. You may be surprised at how well a turban fits your lifestyle and personality!
