The Script at Brixton Academy
The Freedom Child tour hit the Brixton Academy with the vibrating energy of The Script. The Dublin band have already experienced worldwide success in the past with their pop formula; they expect to do the same with their fifth album, a mix of rock pop and easy hip-hop, which was released on 1st September.
After 10 minutes waiting for the beloved group to come out on stage, and a very pleasant musical experience from JP Cooper, the gig officially started rocking with the single Rock the World played against blue neon lights and rhythmic screaming.
Danny O’Donoghue walked around the stage for two hours, spinning around at every chance he got. The crowd seemed equally excited and entertained by the amazing vocals and general enthusiasm of the band, clapping along and singing the night away.
The selection of songs satisfied all types of fans, from the hardcore ones to those who only know about their major hits, such as The Man Who Can’t Be Moved or the incredible Breakeven. The audience picked For the First Time as their favourite one to be played during the night. Along with new songs Arms Open and Rain, the Irish trio performed some of their most acclaimed tracks like Hall of Fame, which closed the gig following a very warm and uplifting speech about the power of love as a tool against discrimination.
We can’t forget the great drum solos performed by Glen Power, a definite highlight of the show. No one could help but enjoy the music and join in with the uplifting vibe that infected the Academy.
