What to expect from Gamescon 2018
If you’re an avid gamer, then you’ll probably be aware that this week Germany will be hosting one of the biggest events on the calendar, Gamescon. With exhibitors from more than 50 countries, the convention promises to showcase the best that the industry has to offer. Here’s what you can expect to see.
The giants of the gaming world
This week anyone who is anyone in the gaming world will be packing up their wares and coming to Cologne, where names like Sony, Microsoft, Nintendo will be in attendance alongside developers such as Ubisoft and Activision. There will be a host of stage presentations, but Microsoft intends to try something different. Instead of holding a physical conference, they will be live-streaming their latest announcements on the online platforms Xbox.com, Mixer, Twitch, YouTube, Facebook and Twitter.

Nvidia have just announced the release of their highly anticipated GTX 1180 graphics card, which promises a far higher performance rate for anyone who can fork out the money for it. And naturally, you can expect developers to plug their own wares, which will undoubtedly be boosted by these new and improved specs.
Hands-on demos
According to the official invite from Nvidia, the event will also be “loaded with new, exclusive, hands-on demos of the hottest upcoming games”. And you can expect to test these on a variety of platforms, from traditional consoles and PCs to VR headsets, mobile phone and iPads. Whether you are into sports or strategy, racing or role-playing games, you are guaranteed to find something to try before it hits the global market.
Gaming education
This is an event for fans and businesses alike and offers an insight into the impact of gaming culture on our society as a whole. The Gamescon campus will offer a series of lectures relating to jobs in the gaming sector, media competence and the importance of youth protection.
A full-on festival experience for all ages
Gamescon offers free entry to the city festival which brings games, music and street food to the heart of Cologne. Many well-known acts will perform and delicacies will be available from all over the world. On top of this, the cosplay village will be a fun place for people to dress up and have professional photos with cinematic backdrops, again, free of charge.
