Miami Open

This year, the highly anticipated tennis competition (both ATP and WTA) is being hosted in a new venue, none other than NFL’s Hard Rock Studio. World number one Novak Djokovic is unsurprisingly the favourite for the men’s draw. Though he lost early in last week’s tournament, many are putting this down to the fact that a lot of high-profile players weren’t completely ready, and optimistically (though with good grounds) anticipating a return to his best now he’s had a chance to warm up. Speaking of big names, followers of the sport are hoping the Serbian will face Swiss tennis titan Roger Federer for an exhilarating final. In the women’s draw, Sloane Stevens will attempt to retain her title, while the legendary Serena Williams, who is currently not on top form, nonetheless should not be ruled out of the fight against favourites world number one Naomi Osaka and Simona Halep.

Champions League

For football fans, it’s the Champions League that’s got everyone buzzing across the UK. Four British teams have reached the quarterfinals, meaning lots of great games to look forward to in the runup to Easter. Man City, one of the favourite teams, will play against Tottenham (17th April), with the return match in Manchester (20th April). Their neighbouring rivals Man United have a tough match with Barcelona on 10th April, and the return game will be held at Camp Nou on (16th April). Liverpool, on the other hand, have the easier match against Porto (9th April / 17th April). It’s possible that three out of four of these teams could reach the semi-finals, and we could even potentially be looking at an all-British final.

Formula One

It’s been a great start for the Mercedes team in the world of motor racing, but the first race in Formula one is a notoriously bad indicator of results to come. Finnish driver Valtteri Bottas came out top for Mercedes on the Melbourne circuit at the Australian Grand Prix, whilst his teammate, our very own Lewis Hamilton, joined him on the podium in second. It remains to be seen whether Hamilto’s rival Sebastien Vettel, who arrived this time at number four for Ferrari, can flip these rankings around in the months to come. The next stops to watch out for are in Bahrain from 29th until 31st March, Shanghai from 12th to14th April and Azerbaijan on 26th to 28th April.
