Duchess of Cambridge unveils Back to Nature Garden at Chelsea Flower Show

This year’s RHS Chelsea Flower Show sees the Duchess of Cambridge collaborating with landscape architects Andree Davies and Adam White on the Back to Nature Garden.

The Duchess is an advocate for the positive impact that nature can have on childhood development, and her woodland garden has this idea at the heart of its design.

A magnificent tree house, with a stag horn oak platform and rope swing, forms the centrepiece and creates a space where children’s imaginations can run freely. Meanwhile, the waterfall and stream provide places to paddle and build dams; a beautifully carved hollow log presents the challenge of learning to balance and climb.

The colour palette has been carefully considered: green shrubs and blue forget-me-nots help create a calming atmosphere. There is also edible produce, such as strawberries, as well as plants for craft activities and food for wildlife.

The RHS Back to Nature Garden is part of the society’s partnership with NHS England, which promotes the physical and emotional wellbeing that access to green spaces provides.
