Just over a year after acquiring the status of most-streamed classical artist in history, Ludovico Einaudi is releasing a hand-picked selection of rare tracks and previously unreleased music entitled Einaudi Undiscovered. The album arrives only months after his virtual release of 12 Songs from Home; a raw, quarantine-driven assortment of fan favourites.

The composer’s collections are never easy to define – there is no one genre that encompasses his style. Through a blend of live performances, popular soundtracks and never-before-heard mixes, this new record celebrates the sheer versatility of the beloved musician.

“For me, it was nice to look back, brush up my memories, […] somehow rediscover myself, and compose a new necklace made of stones of my past,” Einaudi said of his upcoming release. “I have selected songs from different albums and film scores that have been kept more hidden than others, hoping to reveal some of the pieces that I consider as an important part of my repertoire.”

With tracks such as Choros delivering a striking intensity with clear Celtic/folk inspiration, directly followed by the delicate, harp-laden Mali Sajio, the artist has mastered the art of variety. An intermingling of traditional instruments and intense arrangements contrast contemporary classical, electronic-infused sounds throughout the album, leaving listeners anticipating what style the following number will bring.

From the soft, alluring tones of Elegy for the Arctic to a cover of the Rolling Stones’ Lady Jane live at Arcimboldi Theatre, Einaudi Undiscovered is as eclectic as can be expected from such a multifaceted musician.
