What to know before decorating with RGB LED strips

Nowadays, RGB LED strips are increasingly trendy. From home decor to creating a party vibe, they add sparkle with less effort. Who doesn’t want to make their house look fabulous without spending tons of money on home decor? LED lights can be used anywhere: on the ceiling of a bedroom, on windows, in the kitchen, for TV backlighting or for party mood lights. RGB LED light strips are easy to install, self-adhesive, colour changing and flexible.

The lights make it possible to get the perfect Christmas or Halloween look at a very affordable price (most brands sell them at between £10 and £15). For those who don’t want a lot of features, the simpler ones cost less. Here are some factors to be aware of before jumping in.

Versatile colour ranges

The word RGB might sound as though it refers simply three primary colours – red, green and blue – but that’s not quite true. RGB colour-changing LED light strips don’t only come in these three shades – there is a versatile range of colours.

  • 26 static colours for different ambiance, and eight dynamic modes for party or celebration

  • Dreamcolour + RGB – the whole strip can be the same colour or multiple colours

  • 16 million colour panels to select the colours to match a mood

Synchronisation with tracks allows these lights to change colour with the music.

Dimmable

It’s possible to dim or brighten the lights to suit all tastes, which is a great addition to any room, party, celebration and event. Timers also allow the lights to work according to the user’s preferences, for example, six hours on, 18-hour off, and cycle every day.

Lumens of brightness

The brightness of LEDs, especially RGB, are measured in lumens per foot. The lumens per foot of RGB lights vary from 150lm to 1500lm.

Safe to use

GS-approved 12V power supply ensures the safety of the family. These strips are cool lights, so they can even be touched with bare hands.

Installing and LED light fittings

RGB LED light strips are simple to peel and stick for easy installation. There are some lights that come with extra sticky clips or screws for additional support, in addition to the 3M adhesive tape on the back, which prevents the lights from falling off. Once stuck, the display can be controlled via remote, app, ALEXA or Google assistant (for voice control).
