Acclaimed British folk-rocker Ben Howard released his fourth album, Collections from the Whiteout, in March of this year. It was rapturously received, debuting at number one – the second in the artist’s oeuvre to top the charts. He celebrated the record’s release with a livestream concert, broadcast from Goonhilly Satellite Earth Station in Cornwall in April, but until recently had not aired it in person.

Collections from the Whiteout is an ambitious collaborative project, sculpted by Howard with producer Aaron Dessner to create “deeply meditative and soul-searching songs that [retain] the adventurous and experimental side of Ben’s recent output”. The singer performed a series of small-scale “out-store” gigs showcasing the new material in Newcastle, Edinburgh, Bristol, Leeds and Kingston, before bringing the album to the heaving masses at the sold-out venues to which he is accustomed this month.

His September dates have included headline shows at the Eden Sessions at St Austell, Cornwall and Jazzopen in Stuttgart, Germany, before a return to the UK to perform two previously announced sold-out dates at the Royal Festival Hall, followed by Manchester’s Victoria Warehouse and finally Brixton Academy.

The show in Brixton was his tenth headline event at the venue, and the Upcoming’s Guifré de Paray was there to shoot it.
