Since appearing on The Voice UK with a rendition of John Legend’s Ordinary People, Becky Hill has garnered a devoted fanbase. One of the standout stars of the series, she has carved her own path in the music industry, blending accessible pop with a funky edge.
Interacting effortlessly with the crowd, Hill is at home on the stage. Her vocals are only ever improving, with an expressive edge becoming increasingly prevalent in her performances. She has a dedicated fanbase and clearly enjoys performing, offering London a pacy and consistent show with friendly asides and genuine chat with her fans.
On such slower numbers as Wish You Well, the singer is permitted to showcase vulnerability in her work. As energetic as her songs might be, Hill is at her most engaging when bearing her soul. It’s a shame in some ways that she hasn’t gone down the r’n’b soul route, given the fact her skill there outshines her reputation as a dance singles artist. But artist is the operative word: here is a lady with immense talent, who, afforded more creative opportunities, has longevity to enjoy.
Blending the club hits that made her name with emotive, slower songs, it’s clear the artist has an exciting future ahead. Standouts include False Alarm, Sunrise in the East, My Heart Goes and, of course, the smash hit Remember. Surprisingly soulful, Hill more than proves she is a performer to watch out for.
