Staying in: Celebrating an anniversary at home

There may be a number of reasons why a couple decides not to go out as their anniversary approaches – saving money or simply not wanting to have to mingle with strangers could be at the top of the list. However, staying at home doesn’t mean it’s not possible to celebrate in style. Rather than letting the day go forgotten, partners can come up with some creative ways to mark another year of their relationship or marriage.

Set off fireworks

Depending on the time of year, it may be an idea to think about letting off fireworks for the occasion – Roman candles can be absolutely spectacular in the night sky, though some of the louder, more extravagant fireworks may be better suited to the colder months of the year. This is simply because it gets darker earlier, meaning it won’t be necessary to let them off too late into the night. For summer anniversaries, lovers could opt for sparklers, Catherine wheels, or other quiet fireworks that may not cause as much disruption when they need to be used at a later time. It’s also worth considering surrounding gardens and the space available prior to purchasing fireworks for safety reasons.

Cook dinner

It can be tempting to order food to celebrate an anniversary. While this is a completely acceptable option, it might be nice to cook together or surprise one another. One idea could be to look at a list of romantic meals and make them from scratch. This could be something done as a gift to ones partner, or even an activity to partake in together. Alternatively, perhaps it would be fun to recreate that auspicious first date – either ordering the meal from the exact place again or, if that isn’t a possibility, trying to replicate it as closely as possible. This can help couples reminisce about where their relationship started and where it is now.

Dress up

Staying at home for an anniversary also doesn’t mean remaining in pyjamas or loungewear. An attempt to look your best always helps to set the tone for a romantic evening. This could mean picking out a gorgeous outfit, or doing hair and makeup. While this may seem redundant, if there’s no intention to leave the house, it can send the message that a couple still wants to make the effort, much as they might have done at the beginning of the relationship. Seeing one’s partner in formalwear may also be incredibly attractive, and may even make that love even deeper.

An anniversary can be incredibly important. While each day with a partner can be special, this is a sign that two special people have been involved with one another for yet another year. Celebrating this can remind lovers to be grateful for the love they share, and be an excuse for more amazing memories.
