“It’s not just another violent crime show – this is about family, love and loyalty”: Da’Vinchi, La La Anthony, Demetrius Flenory Jr, Myles Truitt, Russell Hornsby and Michole Briana White on BMF season two

“It’s not just another violent crime show – this is about family, love and loyalty”: Da’Vinchi, La La Anthony, Demetrius Flenory Jr, Myles Truitt, Russell Hornsby and Michole Briana White on BMF season two

BMF or Black Mafia Family, based on the real-life crime family that rose to infamy in 1980s Detroit and was led by brothers Demetrius “Big Meech” Flenory and Terry “Southwest T” Flenory to become one of the most powerful in the US through drug trafficking and money laundering, is back for its second season. With Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson behind the show, Demetrius Flenory Jr playing his own father, Meech, who fed into the writing from prison, and the likes of Snoop Dogg featuring in the cast, the series is teeming with authenticity, while the production values are through the roof. It may not be the right way to achieve success but this rags-to-riches story is ultimately about fulfilment of the American Dream when the odds of a prejudicial system and societal oppression are stacked against you.

The Upcoming had the pleasure of speaking with the main cast ahead of the new season landing on Lionsgate+. Da’Vinchi and La La Anthony told us about playing Southwest T and Markaisha Taylor, what viewers can expect from the next instalment of the show and what it’s like working with Demetrius Flenory Jr in his first screen role.

Demetrius Flenory Jr and Myles Truitt then told us about playing Meech and B-Mickie, and the highlights and challenges of being on set, particularly for Demetrius who had the pressure of playing his own father.

Russell Hornsby and Michole Briana White, who play the boys’ parents, then spoke about evoking the 80s era and what they think the show has to say about how people are driven by their circumstances to a life of crime.
