“There was a real sense of wanting to discover something new in every take”: Tom Burke on Furiosa – A Mad Max Saga

Co-produced and directed by George Miller, Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga is the origin story to the journey that Furisosa (Anya Taylor-Joy) went on before her encounter with Mad Max. This post-apocalyptic adventure follows her as a young girl being raised in The Green Place, an abundant and lush village with a predominantly female commune. One day a gang of masked motorcycle bandits, headed up by their leader Dementus (Chris Hemsworth), kidnap her and take her across the wasteland where her harrowing ordeal as a warrior and determined survivor commences.

With action-packed scenes that trawl through deserts, underground dwellings and mythical landscapes, the film explores humanity on the edge and the tension between rival gangs in the Wasteland that teeters on the verge of war.

The Upcoming had the pleasure of speaking to Tom Burke about his lead role in the film as Praetorian Jack, working with Taylor-Joy and Hemsworth on bringing this story to life, and the iconic and lengthy “Stowaway to Nowhere” scene. He also spoke about the challenges of working on set in Australia and developing his character with Miller.
