Camus and Gothic Bar at St. Pancras team up for a Jules Verne-inspired cocktail menu

Luxury Cognac brand Camus has partnered with London’s Gothic Bar at the St. Pancras Renaissance Hotel to launch a cocktail menu inspired by Jules Verne’s book of adventure novels, Voyages Extraordinaires. The list, which will be available from 9 September to 30 November 2024, features drinks crafted by Bar Manager Jack Porter. Each creation is influenced by Verne’s classic tales and incorporates different expressions of Camus Cognac.

The collaboration between Camus, fifth-generation and family-owned brand known for its craftsmanship, and the Gothic Bar, celebrated for its distinctive decor and sophisticated ambience, aims to offer a renewed drinking experience, with a touch of literary creativity. The bar’s opulent setting at the historic Midland Grand Hotel in King’s Cross complements the luxurious and adventurous theme of the menu.

Jack Porter has created three cocktails for the event: Five Weeks in a Balloon, Journey to the Centre of the Earth, and 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. These drinks are priced at £17 each and are designed to evoke the settings and themes of their namesake novels. For example, Five Weeks in a Balloon features a scented smoke balloon, adding an aromatic ginger scent to the peanut-enriched Camus VSOP, while 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea offers a taste of the sea with its use of oyster tincture and kombu seaweed.

Porter took inspiration from the French author’s stories and married them with three cognacs: Camus VSOP, Camus VSOP Borderies, and Camus Ile de Ré to present a flavourful story highlighting the aromatic house style of Camus.

The Gothic Bar will also participate in London Cocktail Week with a special event featuring a cocktail from the menu and cognac masterclasses. The three-month-long activation will conclude with a bar takeover by a French bar in November, with further details to be announced.
