“This is what I lived – I think it could be better for others if they take on board what I have to say”: Pauline Black on Pauline Black: A 2-Tone Story at London Film Festival 2024

Pauline Black: A 2-Tone Story is a captivating new documentary that explores the life and legacy of the multi-talented Pauline Black – best known as the frontwoman of the influential 2-tone band The Selecter. With a career spanning over four decades, Black has not only made groundbreaking music but also been a passionate campaigner for racial equality. Inspired by her 2011 memoir, Black by Design: A 2-Tone Memoir, the documentary is a collaboration with Jane Mingay, and explores Pauline’s personal experiences within the band and the broader cultural impact of the 2-tone movement by her own accord.

In an interview with The Upcoming, Black explores the timely relevance of her film, the influence of the Harlem Renaissance on her work, and the collaborative dynamic between her and Mingay.
