Clara’s to open in Shoreditch with deli, wine bar and bistro led by former Artusi chef

A new deli, wine bar and bistro called Clara’s is opening in Shoreditch this October. Located at 17 Bethnal Green Road, Clara’s is the latest project from George Hartshorn, owner of Camden’s The Farrier. The venue aims to offer a combination of daytime deli service and evening dining, with a focus on seasonal cooking and European produce. The kitchen will be led by head chef Elie Fourcroy, previously of Artusi in Peckham, which was awarded a Michelin Bib Gourmand in 2025. General manager Rochelle Hutchinson, formerly of the River Café, will oversee day-to-day operations. Her background in pastry and fresh produce is expected to shape the venue’s approach.
From 8am each day, Clara’s will operate as a neighbourhood café and deli. The morning offering includes coffee from Extract Coffee Roasters and baked goods from local bakery Dusty Knuckle, as well as house-made cakes and seasonal bakes, and for lunch there are filled buns, focaccia sandwiches and a rotating menu of salad boxes. They will remain open until 7pm, with a retail section featuring charcuterie, cheeses, butchery cuts, tinned fish and other Mediterranean staples, with suppliers including Flourish, Provisions, HG Walter and Neal’s Yard Dairy.
On Wednesday to Sunday evenings, Clara’s will transition into a 45-seat wine bar and bistro. The menu, developed by Fourcroy, takes inspiration from Mediterranean coastal and island cuisines and will change regularly based on seasonal availability. Dishes are designed for sharing and include options such as oysters, rillettes, bruschetta con tomate and a seasonal salad Niçoise. Signature offerings include Conejo en Salmorejo – rabbit braised with pimentón and herbs – and Manchego Fritti, described as “Clara’s continental hero dish,” combining Spanish manchego with a French panisse-style batter.
The wine list focuses on low-intervention and artisanal producers from the UK and Europe, with bottles supplied by Les Caves de Pyrene, Tutto Wines, Ancestral Wines and Nabeeth Wines. A section titled Wines with a Purpose will highlight producers engaged in social, economic or ecological initiatives.
Clara’s will also host a programme of events, including wine tastings and interactive workshops such as The Salami Party, where participants can make their own salami to be collected after curing.
