Big Mamma Group named world’s second-best pizza chain in new global rankings

The Big Mamma Group has been named the second-best pizza chain in the world, according to the Top 50 Pizza Guide’s latest rankings released last week. The group serves highly commended Italian food at six locations in London and several others across Europe, and was recognised for its distinctive approach and growing international presence.

The Top 50 Pizza Guide annually evaluates pizzerias and chains based on quality, consistency and innovation, and placed Big Mamma just behind the top-ranked Da Michele. Other notable entries in the top ten include Grasso Napoletano, Braz and Luigia.

Founded in Paris in 2015, the company has expanded rapidly across Europe, with restaurants in cities including London, Paris, Madrid and most recently Dublin, where it opened Gloria Osteria. In London, the group operates Barbarella (Canary Wharf), Gloria (Shoreditch), Ave Mario (Covent Garden), Jacuzzi (Kensington), Carlotta (Marylebone), and Circolo Popolare (Fitzrovia). Each location offers a slightly different menu and aesthetic, but all share an emphasis on traditional Italian ingredients and techniques.

Big Mamma’s pizza dough is leavened for 48 hours before being baked at 400°C for 80 seconds. Menu offerings include classic Neapolitan-style pies such as Mammargherita di Bufala (San Marzano DOP tomato sauce, mozzarella fior di latte, mozzarella di bufala, Parmigiano and fresh basil), Hot Shot (San Marzano DOP tomato, mozzarella fior di latte, spicy ‘nduja, salame piccante, caramelised red onions and tarragon) and Dancing Queen (San Marzano DOP tomato sauce, mozzarella di bufala, prosciutto crudo, pecorino and fresh rocket), as well as more unconventional options like the Caviale e Fior Di Latte, which features mozzarella, crème fraîche and 20 grams of Transmontanus black caviar.

The Top 50 Pizza Guide is considered a respected authority in the global culinary scene, with rankings compiled by a panel of anonymous inspectors who assess establishments based on taste, service, atmosphere and authenticity. Big Mamma Group’s inclusion in the top tier of the list places it alongside traditional and long-established names in the industry, and reflects their growing reputation for blending Italian culinary traditions with a contemporary dining experience.
