Bone Daddies to open new Old Compton Street ramen bar with tribute dessert

Well-known London ramen restaurant group Bone Daddies will open a new branch this April, taking over the former Shackfuyu site on Old Compton Street in Soho. The change comes after a short closure for refurbishment and will see the Japanese pop-up Shackfuyu close their doors after 11 years. The new venue will continue Bone Daddies’ tradition of serving ramen and delicious Japanese street food, while also introducing popular dishes from the previous residents’ menu.

The ramen bar will accommodate up to 80 diners in the ground floor space, offering a mix of counter seating, low dining tables and group booths. A front window area will also be available, offering views of Soho’s busy streets. The interior design will feature the brand’s characteristic exposed brick walls and red neon lighting, accompanied by a rock ‘n’ roll soundtrack, aiming to blend “old school Soho vibes” with influences from Tokyo’s backstreets.

Shackfuyu originally launched in 2015 as a Japanese pop-up restaurant intended to last “three months, maybe more”, but remained open for over a decade. The Old Compton Street site’s transformation reflects Bone Daddies’ continued expansion in London’s competitive ramen scene, while they also seek to retain elements of their predecessors’ legacy through the dessert selection. The team says their latest move will pay homage to Shackfuyu by incorporating their “iconic” Kinako French Toast with matcha soft serve ice cream into the menu at the new location, as well as rolling it out at all Bone Daddies ramen bars from next month.

Bone Daddies Old Compton Street will accept bookings for both lunch and dinner seven days a week, while reserving space for walk-in customers.
