Berry Bros & Rudd named exclusive UK partner for new Burgundy estate Vignoble des Cabottes

London-based wine merchant Berry Bros & Rudd has been appointed the exclusive UK partner for Vignoble des Cabottes, a newly established Burgundy estate that brings together a selection of vineyard holdings previously sold under the Bouchard Père et Fils label. The partnership, announced this week, will see the estate’s wines distributed across the UK, with the 2023 vintage marking the first release under the new name.

Vignoble des Cabottes comprises a 35-hectare, entirely estate-owned vineyard portfolio centred on the Côte de Beaune. The holdings include Grand Cru and Premier Cru sites such as Montrachet, Chevalier-Montrachet and Corton-Charlemagne, alongside historic climates including Volnay Caillerets, Meursault Perrières and Beaune Vigne de L’Enfant Jésus.

The estate has been created as part of a strategy by Artémis Domaines, the wine division founded in 1993 with the acquisition of Château Latour, to focus on estate-grown fruit from selected parcels of the Bouchard Père et Fils portfolio. Long-time head winemaker Frédéric Weber continues to oversee winemaking, and the vineyards’ resources have been increased with the stated aim of expressing individual terroirs with greater precision.

The domaine holds organic certification and has adopted biodynamic practices, alongside agroforestry initiatives intended to support biodiversity. In the cellar, the estate has introduced micro-plot vinification, additional sorting and selection, and extended ageing, and a new winery has been built in Puligny-Montrachet. The estate has stated that its longer-term aims include building recognition alongside Burgundy’s leading producers and adapting its viticultural and winemaking practices in response to climate change.

Founded in 1698, Berry Bros & Rudd is Britain’s oldest wine and spirits merchant. The family-owned company trades from No 3 St James’s Street in London and has additional offices in Hong Kong, Tokyo and Singapore. Artémis Domaines holds a portfolio of estates across Bordeaux, Burgundy, the Rhône Valley, Champagne, Napa Valley and Oregon.

Adam Bruntlett, senior wine buyer for Burgundy, Loire and Jura at Berry Bros & Rudd, said: “Securing the exclusive UK partnership for Vignoble des Cabottes is a landmark moment for Berry Bros & Rudd. In a region as well-established as Burgundy, estates of this calibre rarely emerge, and the opportunity to help shape their introduction to the UK market is hugely exciting for our Burgundy-loving customers.”

Victor Pépin, deputy CEO of the estate, added: “We are delighted to begin this new partnership with BB&R in the UK, which we are certain will provide excellent exposure for our new property to restaurant professionals, enthusiasts and private clients alike.”
