Tip Toe: On the red carpet with the cast and creatives at the London premiere
The creator of award-winning shows like Queer as Folk and It’s a Sin, writer Russell T Davies, brings to screen a new five-part drama called Tip Toe, set in Manchester, about two warring neighbours with a relationship that spirals into dangerous territory.
Alan Cummings steps into the role of Leo, an outgoing owner of a gay bar on Canal Street who lives next door to electrician Clive (David Morrissey) and his family. When Leo accidentally locks himself out after a dating disaster, the two men start to forge an amicable friendship when he gives Clive his spare house key. A supporting cast helps drive forward the story, exploring social tensions, prejudice and the negative impact of social media.
The Upcoming had the pleasure of attending the special screening of this new series, and we spoke to Davies about the landscape surrounding the subject matter of the show, the casting process and the thought-provoking layers of its story.
David Cummings and David Morrissey teamed up for a joint interview about coming on board after reading the brilliant script, the mounting tensions between their two characters and what scenes they think stood out for them.
We spoke to Jackson Connor and Joseph Evans about playing the sons of their onscreen father Clive, the responsibility of delivering both believable and impactful scenes and the powerful drive of the script that tells such a timely story.
Elizabeth Berrington chatted about her role as Leo’s best friend on screen, the way Davies built that and the impact of the fateful scene that closes the series. She also spoke about the wonderful script and working on set with such a brilliant cast.
We heard from Charlie Condou and Paul Rhys about the urgency of telling a story like this, how powerful the storylines were and what an incredible writer Davies is.
