John Terry fined and handed a four game ban

Former England captain John Terry has been handed a four-game ban and a £220,000 fine after he was found guilty of racially abusing QPR defender Anton Ferdinand.

After a four-day hearing at the FA’s Wembley headquarters the FA gave their verdict which Terry described as “disappointing” in a statement released by his management company.

The inicident happened during Chelsea’s 1-0 defeat to QPR in October 2011, but Terry was found not guilty at Westminster Crown Court of the same charges in July.

In the statement released by his management after the verdict was passed, Terry said he asked for the detailed written reasons of the decision and will consider them carefully before deciding whether to lodge an appeal.

The 31-year-old has 14 days to decide whether to appeal or decide to accept the punishment handed to him.

Chelsea football club released their own statement saying it would be “inappropriate for us to comment further on the matter at this time”.

Earlier this year the FA banned Liverpool’s Luis Suarez for eight games after he was found guilty of racially abusing Manchester United’s Patrice Evra.
