Jamavar London to celebrate Onam for the first time with 21-dish Sadhya feast marking tenth anniversary
Jamavar London, the Michelin-starred Indian restaurant in Mayfair, will serve a 21-dish Onam Sadhya at lunch from 17th to 31st August, marking its first celebration of the South Indian harvest festival as part of the establishment’s tenth anniversary in the area. The limited-edition menu, priced at £68 per person and available by pre-order only, honours the South Indian roots of the founding Nair family.
Onam is Kerala’s annual harvest festival, and the Sadhya is its central feast, a spread of 21 dishes traditionally served on a banana leaf and shared among family and friends. The meal is associated with themes of abundance and togetherness – values that the team link to their approach to hospitality.
The menu is called Leelamma’s Onam Sadhya after Leela Nair (known to her nearest and dearest as Leelamma), the matriarch of the family. They describe it as both a personal tribute to her and a reflection of their own Onam traditions, drawing on seasonality and balance.
At Jamavar, the Sadhya has been adapted for diners in a restaurant setting. It was created by culinary director and executive shef Surender Mohan and follows the traditional structure, beginning with banana chips, pickles and relishes, followed by coconut-based vegetable dishes, curries and rice. Reflecting Kerala’s coastal cuisine, the menu includes sea bass inspired by the traditional Meen Porichathu, marinated in coastal spices and fried, alongside an Alleppey Prawn Curry. A fully vegetarian selection is also available. The meal concludes with two South Indian desserts, Pal Payasam (a creamy dessert made from slow-cooked rice, milk, and sugar) and Parippu Pradhaman (using split yellow moong dal, jaggery and coconut milk, spiced with cardamom and dry ginger), the latter served with a traditional cardamom banana, which customarily signals the end of the Sadhya.
Jamavar London was co-founded by hospitality entrepreneur Samyukta Nair and her father Dinesh Nair, who launched the restaurant in 2016. The interiors draw inspiration from the Viceroy’s House in New Delhi, with Kashmiri Jamavar shawls – coveted by royalty and nobility – lending a secondary decorative reference. The restaurant is part of an international group that includes Michelin-starred sister restaurants in Doha and Dubai. It offers private dining in two spaces: the Sapphire Room, an eight-seat conservatory overlooking a botanical garden, and the semi-private Game Room, which seats up to 38 guests.
Reservations must be made at least 24 hours in advance.
