“We’ve always had that good-natured feel to our films and that’s probably what the appeal is”: Jay Chandrasekhar, Kevin Heffernan, Steve Lemme, Paul Soter and Erik Stolhanske on Super Troopers 3
Jay Chandrasekhar returns to direct and star in Super Troopers 3, the latest instalment in the cult American comedy franchise, alongside his fellow Broken Lizard members. The film reunites the comedy troupe for another round of outrageous antics where they blend humour with the camaraderie that made this series so popular.
This time around, the Vermont State Troopers find themselves balancing the demands of police work with the chaos of their personal lives. When Officer Fava (Kevin Heffernan) announces his surprise engagement to Sarita (Hannah Simone), he quickly finds himself under scrutiny from her parents and her brother, Thorny (Chandrasekhar), who devises a string of ridiculous schemes to try and sabotage the wedding before the couple walk down the aisle. Whilst the OTT celebrations become a clash of cultures, the troopers are also tasked with infiltrating an illegal drug ring, although, in true Super Troopers fashion, their investigation rarely goes to plan.
The Upcoming spoke to Chandrasekhar and the Broken Lizard ensemble about returning to the franchise, developing the film’s offbeat storylines and the enduring appeal of the Super Troopers series. They also discussed some of their favourite moments on set and what audiences can expect from the latest instalment.
