Ali G is heading back to the big screen – and two decades apparently haven’t done much to make him grow up.

The first trailer and teaser poster have been released for Ali G: Who Iz I?, which sees Sacha Baron Cohen reprise one of his most famous characters for a new cinema adventure arriving this October.

This time, Ali’s carefree existence is interrupted by some fairly major news: his long-term girlfriend Julie is eight months pregnant. Suddenly faced with the prospect of becoming a father – and having another mouth to feed – he decides the obvious solution is to head to America and attempt to reclaim his former glory.

Things, inevitably, do not go according to plan. His trip brings him up against a series of new adversaries, with the stakes escalating until both Ali and his unborn child find themselves under threat.

Baron Cohen first introduced the wannabe gangster from Staines on The 11 O’Clock Show in the late 1990s before the character became the centre of Da Ali G Show. He subsequently made the leap to cinemas in 2002’s Ali G Indahouse, making Who Iz I? his first Ali G feature in more than two decades.

The new film also marks another first for Baron Cohen, who makes his feature directorial debut as well as starring. Morgana Robinson joins him in the cast.

The trailer offers the first proper indication of what Ali G looks like transplanted into 2026, with the character now confronting impending fatherhood while remaining spectacularly ill-equipped for adult responsibility. After such a long absence, the bigger question may be how Ali’s particular brand of chaos plays in a world that has changed considerably since audiences last saw him on the big screen.

Whatever the answer, Ali G is officially back – and apparently becoming a responsible family man was never going to happen quietly.
