On Monday, a new pub called The Last Exchange will open in Exchange Square, Broadgate, near Liverpool Street station – and to mark the launch, it is offering 1,000 free pints to the first people who sign up online.

Operators Publican Estate describe it as a “new-generation British pub with old-school standards”, with a focus on local food, beer, wine and table service that runs from breakfast through to dinner, designed to extend the usual weekday City rhythm. Mornings begin with coffee on a terrace overlooking the square, followed by lunch, after-work drinks and dinner. Private dining is available for groups, and a roast is served on Sundays.

The opening reflects a wider change in the area, which has long been associated primarily with weekday office staff but is increasingly also drawing people outside working hours. Even better, the £5 house pint is priced lower than most others in the area in an effort to attract regulars in a part of the capital where drinks bills are typically high.

The food menu is built around pub classics prepared with British ingredients, such as a Deep-Filled Beef Shin Pie served with mash, greens and gravy, alongside some less familiar dishes like Battered Oysters with Exchange Tartare and The Breville, a beef mince toastie served with Lea & Perrins gravy for dipping.

The first 1,000 people to register through The Last Exchange’s website will receive an e-voucher for a free pint of either Guinness or The City Scribbler, the pub’s own house beer, to be redeemed at the bar during opening week. After the giveaway, pints of The City Scribbler will cost £5 at all times.

Andrew Garton, CEO at Publican Estate, said: “We’ve always wanted The Last Exchange to feel like the kind of pub you can walk into and immediately feel at home. Somewhere you can come in for a pint, stay for dinner, lose track of time and end up having another one. We’re keeping things simple – properly made British food, good beer, warm hospitality and that old-school feeling that pubs used to do so well.”
