Wam Bam Club at Cafe de Paris
Situated in the bustling Piccadilly Circus, Cafe de Paris is a stylish underground club, decorated with velvet walls and luxurious leather seating. With an option of general admission for the show (seated in the upper tier), or an extensive range of dinner options, this venue offers something for all tastes. A huge chandelier adorns the ceiling of the quaint, classy club. A video screen above the stage shows early burlesque and slapstick cabaret footage as we wait for the show to start.
We are greeted by desk-staff in full burlesque dress and a concierge shows us through to an adjoining hallway room, where our photo is taken with two can-can style girls in full showgirl attire. The staff are friendly and accommodating, always smiling as they distribute a huge range of (expensive) champagnes, food and deserts, some complete with sparklers.
The show begins with the “wam bam girls” and “buff boys” performing a saucy dance routine, introducing the host Lady Alex. She proves a fantastic host throughout the night, constantly cracking the sexual innuendo word play, taunting various male (and female) audience members with all manners of naughtiness (including an entire silent act that involved a whip and an unsuspecting diner, need I say more). She is a fantastic compare, with high energy, flare and the most fantastic range of beautiful costumes!
The performers on this occasion were varied and impressive. The acts began with a burlesque routine from Gypsy Wood. She was teasing and funny, obviously an expert and getting the crowd going, especially when she produced two huge feathers.
Next was hula hoop artist Lisa Lottie. She was spectacular. With hula hoops on every body part imaginable, she wowed the crowd with a cheeky routine. This included an impressive seven hula hoop trick and a finale which comprising of tons of hoops and a bang of confetti. She is definitely worth a watch, she is a regular on the London scene as both a cabaret and street performer.
Bunny Galore followed up with a comedy routine, wearing a stunning little yellow feathery number, accompanied by two rather toned male dancers.
Tom Mones covered the classic songs as an ageing Tom Jones tribute act, pushing the boundaries slightly with a reviewed version of a classic, entitled “my, my, my, alzheimers”. Arial silks performer Rosie Cheeks then wowed the crowd with a routine to Aerosmith’s ‘Pink’. She captivated the audience and bent and twisted herself around the silks like a pro.
The second half of the evening comprised of a heavily audience participated act from Madame Galina. Several diners were ushered on stage and made to perform several ridiculous routines. Truly hilarious and full of hilarious puns and jokes, Madame Galina kept the audience in hysterics. The last event of the evening was the Wam Bam finale, lots of noise, cheering and a sing along to the Queen anthem ‘We Are The Champions’.
A night of stunning costumes and tongue-in-cheek humour, if you’re easily offended, this is not the evening for you.
However, if you’re looking for something slightly more edgy and different to do on a Saturday night, this is definitely something you should check out! Not a night for the faint hearted or the easily offended, Wam Bam Club is a fantastic night out for hen and stag parties, or something slightly more off the wall for an office party. A thoroughly enjoyable night of naughty sexual innuendo, stunning performances and nudity.
