90s revival: Spice up your wardrobe

90s revival: Spice up your wardrobe

90s fashion has been creeping its way back onto our high street for a while now, with boyfriend fit Levi’s, colourful crops and chunky gold chains. Recently however, 90s fashion has assuredly erupted and nearly every runway and high street store is embracing the nostalgic trend. Could this be due to our generation’s ultimate IT girl, Cara Delevingne being spotted sporting a scrunchie on more than one occasion? If the ultimate 90s trademark is back, it would be a shame not to pay credit to the whole bold, baggy, pattern clashing decade.

Today we’re taking you on a trip down memory lane in order for you to give your wardrobe the perfect 90s revamp – everything from scrunchies down to jelly shoes! Firstly, reminiscing on classic 90s TV such as Saved by The BellFRIENDS and Clarrisa Explains it All is one way to give you true 90s inspiration, and it’s easy to embrace with nearly everything they wear available on the high street!

90s fashion takes some inspiration from both the 60s and the 80s, which makes the trend all the more appealing with these decades being two of the best fashion eras of all time! 80s neon colours leaked through to the 90s in the form of shell suits, denim resurrected in dungaree form and 60s flower power was reincarnated through floral trousers, off-shoulder tops and culotte shorts.

Starting with the basics – high-waist, loose fitted jeans pulled in at the waist with a simple leather belt is a staple item to any 90s wardrobe. Short dungarees, paired with bright socks, high top trainers and a band tee is a casual 90s alternative. Long dungarees paired with any bright neon tee or patterned crop also fits the trend. All of these looks can be found on ASOS and Topshop!

Add a splash of femininity to your 90s wardrobe his summer with floral trousers and matching skirt and crop sets! All paired with converse give a laid back, youthful look. You can even mix florals with Doc Martins to add a grungy 90s edge or add a lyrca off-shoulder top/body with patterned trousers for a dressier feel. All of these looks can be found on ASOS, however floral prints and skirt/top sets can also be found in Topshop, Miss Selfridge, Zara and H&M.

Off the shoulder tops were everywhere in the 90s, and similarly can be found everywhere today! Whether it’s patterned or plain, in top or fitted dress form, they add an instant 90s feel and can be found in most high street stores.

Scrunchies, stripes, neon and jelly shoes are possibly the epitome of 90s fashion. With scrunchies being spotted on the runways, and striped/neon shorts and jelly shoes available on the high street, adding any of these to an outfit will add an instant 90s look. Vintage striped shorts and scrunchies can be found on ASOS market place, jelly shoes are being stocked in Topshop and Kurt Geiger, and neon culotte’s can be found in Topshop, Zara and ASOS.

90s fashion can either be fun and colourful allowing you to get in touch with your inner youth, or dark and grungy embracing a 90s rock and roll style. With such a vast collection available on the high street, adding a touch of 90s fashion to your wardrobe this year is unavoidable.
