Real clothes for retro lovers at Undisposed Clothing
After seeing the creative and wonderful creations of Undisposed Clothing, we had to dig deep in sisters Haley’s and Morgan’s genius mind and question them the how, what and why!
What is your main aim?
Morgan: This line is made up of my sister Haley and myself. I think what makes us kind of unique is that between the two of us we do everything from designing and making the clothes/accessories, photographing them, even down to printing and hand sewing the tags on! Our main aim is to provide one-of-a-kind items. We like to make things that people take a second look at. Like our beanies, for example. Everyone’s got a beanie, but does everyone’s have studs around the cuff?! Quality is another huge thing we aim for. We pick out the best quality vintage we can find and take a lot of pride in reconstructing a cool pair of shorts. And since we do just about everything by hand, a lot of hard work and love goes into every single item. Our beanies are super soft and slouchy, and the colours are very true to what you see online.
What artists and designers inspire you?
Undisposed Clothing gets a lot of influence from several places. We don’t really claim one style. We definitely get a lot of influence from 70s punk rock style. One of our favourite places to go is St Marks Place in NYC and we get really inspired by stores like Trash and Vaudeville, and Search and Destroy that are in that area. We grew up going to several rock/alternative shows and that’s where we would say the “RAD” studded snapback idea came from. We’ve been fortunate enough to spend some time in California in the summers and that’s where a lot of the renewed vintage shorts inspiration came from. Walking around the Venice Beach area, there were tons of people in worn out Levis shorts and crop tops and it looked so much cooler than typical low-rise denim.
How would you describe Undisposed Clothing?
Undisposed Clothing definitely has some edge to it. I would say our “specialty” is studding. We go through a lot of studs! It’s made up of a lot of denim whether it be dyed, acid washed, spiked, etc. We are always coming up with new ideas. All of our beanies and hats are unisex and honestly look rad on anyone, any season. Haley and I truly believe that if you wear something with confidence, then you can rock anything, even if it’s outside of your comfort zone.
What has been your favourite part of Undisposed Clothing?
It’s really hard for us to pick one favourite part of Undisposed Clothing. First off we love when people tag us in photos or e-mail us photos in their Undisposed clothing or accessories. One of the most fun parts for both of us is that we have had the opportunity to talk to and send some items to some of our personal fashion inspirations. Sherri Dupree-Bemis of Eisley, fashion blogger and designer Hanna Beth, and Samii Ryan of the Seventeen Magazine style council, are a few examples. We get so stoked when they post a photo with Undisposed gear on and we really appreciate their support! Of course, our number one favourite thing is that we’re not only sisters, but we’re also best friends and taking this journey together has been amazing.
What has the future got in store?
One near future thing going on in Undisposed land is we are in the process of planning a photo shoot that will be in a couple weeks for our third look book. This will feature some of our new pieces for the colder seasons. We always have a blast at our photo shoots. As far as the future in general, we are always working to spread the word about our line! And a little further out, it would be like a dream to have some of our items on a website like Dolls Kill.
And finally, what would you like to say to people interested in Undisposed?
First off and foremost, we really appreciate all the support you have already shown us! If you visit our website and see something you like and it’s not your size, or you want something completely different, we always take custom orders so just hit us up over e-mail. And we love chatting on Twitter and Facebook. We have been customising our own clothes forever and we would love to share that with you!
How fabulous are they? They have everything you want in a clothing brand. Love, creativity, recycling, rock and roll, and above all, passion.
