Last night, The Upcoming was lucky enough to attend the launch of A.K.A. Cosmetics, a new British brand hoping to change the face of colour cosmetics with its cutting-edge collection of make-up.

In Fitzrovia’s swanky Vanilla bar, the atmosphere was lively: gorgeous cocktails aplenty and mouth-watering canapés were being offered left, right and centre. Make-up artists were on hand offering make-overs and manicures, so after gorging on several mini-pizzas and delicious fajitas, who could resist a free manicure? I chose to have my nails painted with Mocha, a stunning taupe colour that is perfect for everyday wear, not to mention bang on trend this season. A.K.A.’s range boasts a collection of 12 long-lasting nail polishes in a variety of shades – from subtle nudes to more adventurous colours for evening wear.

A.K.A. aim their products to awaken the ‘other you,’ hence the acronym A.K.A. (also known as). As make-up can dramatically alter your look and inspire confidence, and A.K.A. celebrate this power and the playfulness of make-up with a range specifically intended to help achieve whatever look you desire, be it pretty and classic, sexy and sultry, or outrageous and fierce.

Currently, A.K.A.’s range features eye, lip and nail products, as well as blushers emblazoned with words reflecting how the application of colour will make you feel. Sasha Zanjani, the creative lead on the make-up production, says: “Our commitment throughout the process was to create a make-up collection that was superior quality, dynamic pigment and finish however still within a reasonable price point.” With a decent assortment of colours, sleek packaging and all products priced at less than £10, make-up lovers should be more than satisfied with A.K.A Cosmetics.
