Karl Lagerfeld for Shu Uemura

Karl Lagerfeld, aka “Mr Chanel”, will collaborate on a one-off make-up collection with Japanese beauty giant Shu Uemura, to go on sale in November.

The root of the collaboration is based on more than 20 years of friendship between master of fashion Lagerfeld and make-up innovator, Shu Uemura himself – both had deep respect and mutual admiration for one another.

The master of fashion and revolutionary beauty brand has decided to join forces for an exclusive Christmas collection. Lagerfeld’s last beauty endeavor was a make-up line in collaboration with Sephora last Christmas.

The designer claims to have used Shu Uemura products for years – he uses the pressed eye shadows to hand-colour his illustrations. He told WWD: “I design with Shu Uemera make-up because other manufacturers do not offer such beautiful colours.”

Pier Paolo Righi, President of Karl Lagerfeld BV, has announced that the collection will be named Karl Lagerfeld for Shu Uemura and will reflect the designer’s “iconic, ironic style.”

Lagerfeld has merged his notions of fashion and beauty with the cosmetics brand to create an entire collection in homage to the late Mr. Uemura’s work. The colour selection and packaging have been designed entirely by Lagerfeld, who also photographed the visual campaign.

Shu Uemura, renowned for its cult eyelash curlers and cleansing oils, as well as dozens of other beauty best buys, will no doubt benefit from a few more bestsellers from the Karl Lagerfeld collection.
