Statement jewellery is a fantastic way to give an old outfit a new feel, or to simply add extra glamour to an already eye-catching ensemble. So, here at The Upcoming we have sought out some unique and alternative statement necklaces, from a variety of price ranges, to add an extra punch to your outfit.

Soomin – Tara silver collar

Soomin (online here) aims to create a “fusion of old and new” designs, pairing classic styles with a modern twist. This can definitely been seen in their detachable collar pieces, which come in three fantastic designs.

For a more contemporary look, there is the leather ‘Corwin/Sera/Tara’ collars: each one is reversible and they come in metallic blue, blue leather and silver respectively. Almost looking like wings, they give a bit of a glam-rock feel but can be changed from sparkly potential nightwear to a more demure suede finish on the reversible side for daywear.

Soomin – Layla collar

The Layla collar offers a much more classic look, but with the same Soomin take. Each silk collar is printed with a unique peacock print, which will really stand out if paired with a simpler outfit.

These collars by Soomin are all handmade in London and finished to the highest quality.

Same Same – vintage piece

Same Same Jewellery (online here) is an online boutique that started as a market stall. Run by twin sisters, Helen and Claire, they use a mix of new and vintage materials as well as semi-precious stones and natural sources. They describe their collection as having an “edgy, but feminine vibe”.

Same Same – Black Geode Agate Slice with Amethyst

Their Same Same collection features a variety of beautiful stones (quartz, amethyst, and agate to name a few), each one presented differently, whether the stones be uncut and hanging on a gold plated necklace or beautifully polished and complemented with a hamsa hand. The stones are eye-catching and unique and hang on 18-28 inch chains, so will be perfect to wear on their own or can be complemented with some shorter, simpler chains. Their Vintage collection features quirky charms with an antique flare. There’s a mixture of silver and gold pieces as well as a few gorgeous silver pendants on suede cords. With the diverse mixture of colours and styles within their collection, there is bound to be a necklace to match every outfit.

The necklaces range from £12 to £40, so are affordable as well as wonderfully quirky.

Same Same – Hasma Hand

Gossimar Wings (online here) offer an alternative to charms and chains with their bib-style material statement pieces. Each piece is hand-made and “combines all things whimsical and unique.” The bibs are made up of ribbons, rhinestones, sequins and embroidery. The ribbon-tie at the back makes them adjustable in length to suit your neckline. The pieces are bold and really are a statement, so it would be perfect to wear on a night out, or dress up a more casual outfit. Gossimar Wings also make custom designs in case there isn’t a colour scheme you like, or you had something specific in mind.  Ready-made pieces range from £22 to £59.

Gossimar Wings – Royal Affair bib

Kastur Jewels (online here) has some really striking and exquisite pieces for sale. They describe their collection as “grand but subtle, regal but unassuming”.

Their collection features an eclectic mix of colours, materials and styles. They have beautiful brass and gold-plated choker necklaces; each one features very intricate detail and some also incorporate crystal beads or semi-precious stones. As each piece is a choker style, they will really set off an outfit with a bang. As well as the brass chokers, they have longer brass chains that are more subtle, but still would give life to an outfit. They also have a collection of pearl necklaces, some that feature detachable rhinestone broaches that really draw the eye, and some that are simpler. The biggest statement pieces have to be the magnificent silver choker that features turquoise and coral stones, as well as the copper and brass work bib-style necklace. Both of these necklaces are extremely commanding so would turn any outfit into a statement. Pieces range from £35 to £500, and £2 from each sale goes to the Woman £2 Woman initiative, which helps support women in developing countries with things such as health-care, safe water and paying for children’s school-books. Custom pieces can also be made.

So, if you’re looking to spice up an outfit look no further than one of these perfect websites – full of unique and distinctive necklaces that really do make a statement.
