London Film Festival 2012 – day ten: The Pervert’s Guide To Ideology

London Film Festival 2012 – day ten: The Pervert’s Guide To Ideology

The follow up to the 2006 The Pervert’s Guide To Cinema is another lecture from philosopher Slavoj Zizek this time covering ideology. Sophie Fiennes takes the role of director again as Zizek gives another hilarious and thought provoking look at cinema.

The form of The Pervert’s Guide To Ideology is very much the same as The Pervert’s Guide to Cinema; Zizek appears in hilarious tableaus of the film he is discussing. The editing is masterfully timed, and creates a great deal of laughs. He talks about and appears in films as diverse as John Carpenter’s They Live to The Sound Of Music.

This is a thoroughly entertaining, engaging and visually enhanced lecture. Cineastes will be enraptured by this film. For those not so interested in the critical theory of cinema it will be a long 90 minutes.

Verdict: ●●●●
