Matalan SS13 Press Day

Matalan SS13 Press Day

A rather cold Wednesday evening in west London had a glimmer of sunshine brought to it with the Matalan SS13 Press Day opening its doors. The Whitfield Street Space was transformed with next season’s womenswear, menswear, childrenswear and homeware for exclusive browsing pleasure.

Five spring/summer collections were the main focus of womenswear for the new season. Full of life and each with their own distinctive trend, a whole palette of colour had been used in order to give the ultimate summery feel. Keeping with the current autumn/winter military theme, the self-titled collection featured khakis and blacks mixed with a “utility luxe twist”. Brought into light with the use of coral, blue and orche, the collection sees current trends such as embellishment being used, but are brought together with prints inspired by nature for spring/summer 2013.

Knitwear has been designed to create a statement with open knits, laddering and twisted yarns all making an appearance in the collection. Bold shades of blue created with tie-dye effects brought with it the introduction of the Blue Indigo collection. Mixed with denim and Middle Eastern prints, the collection features beautiful dresses that are sophisticated and modern. There is definitely a feel of last season to some of the garments, with ombre shorts making another somewhat acceptable appearance (since we loved them so much last summer!), but there is a distinguishing sense of “newness” to the pieces.

The Monochrome collection moved into bold, statement clothing with graphic prints and stripes combining a brilliant use of black and white. Ensuring we knew that this collection was made for the summer, a touch of fluorescent colour had been added, including a stunning yellow blazer that would make a beautiful finishing touch to any outfit.

Accessories were very current and up-to-date, bringing a feel of this season into next. Futuristic and fun, necklaces and footwear featured studding and shape, and there was also Matalan’s own take on the hidden wedge hi-top trainers that have recently become very popular on the high street.

Menswear followed suit with trends for next season. We particularly loved the New Haven collection, which features cute paisley prints, delightful pastel shades and a whole array of casual shirts, suitable for any occasion. The designs are very up-to-date, and with the prices that Matalan have to offer, menswear is certainly a must for summer next year.

We cannot forget to mention homeware, as the new season collections are bashful and beautiful. Whether it is just new accessories you need, or you are redecorating a whole room, Matalan have got it covered. The Pastel Pop collection is the definition of spring, with lovely shades of colour creating patterns on pillows and throws. The Oriental collection is also prominent of the current “vintage” style designs that are about. With birdcage accessories and floral prints, you are bound to find something here that oozes beauty and is an absolute bargain.

Make sure you check out Matalan in the new year, as there are promising things to come for your wardrobe and your wallet.
