East Dulwich restaurant Kokum is running a two-for-one offer on its Chai Martini for a week from 21^st to 27^th September, marking National Chai Day. The drink is the restaurant’s Indian take on the classic martini, combining vodka, chai liqueur, coffee and sugar, shaken and served ice-cold. Customers who quote the code KOKUMCHAI when ordering one of the sweet and spicy cocktails will be presented with a second, free of charge.

Chai – spiced tea brewed with milk and traditionally flavoured with cardamom, ginger, cinnamon and cloves – has in recent years become a fixture on British menus well beyond Indian restaurants, appearing in everything from coffee-shop lattes to desserts. Kokum’s version places the spiced tea element in a liqueur form rather than brewing it fresh, pairing it with coffee in a format closer to an espresso martini than a conventional dry martini. The result is a dessert-style drink rather than a spirit-forward one, which positions it as an after-dinner option as much as a pre-meal aperitif.

Founded by hospitality trailblazers Sanjay Gour and Simeron Lily Patel, Kokum has caught a lot of buzz since opening in 2023. The modern Indian restaurant has rapidly become a south London hotspot, led in the kitchen by executive head chef Manmeet Singh Bali, who brings an impressive background from luxury venues like the Ritz Carlton Dubai and Scotland’s Turnberry. Combining an industrial-chic interior with a relaxed neighbourhood vibe, Kokum also has an innovative cocktail program (featuring drinks like the Pink Peppercorn Old Fashioned) and a popular outdoor terrace barbecue that serves up beautifully charred, marinated meats and coastal delicacies.

The Chai Martini offer runs for the full seven days, covering both weekend and weekday visits, and applies whether the drinks are ordered alongside food or on their own. There is no requirement to book a table specifically for the promotion, but the code must be mentioned at the point of ordering.
