Everybody knows December means Christmas – ‘tis the season to be generous and giving, as well as to be receiving. Since 2002, The Wayuú Taya foundation has been giving without any expectations of receiving. Their only aim is to assist the Wayuú, an indigenous group of 450,000 people located in Northern Colombia and Northwest Venezuela. Screen Shot 2012-12-23 at 01.15.00

The Wayuú have been affected by tragic natural disasters, the most well-known being the Haiti earthquake. The Wayuú Taya Foundation was set up by Wayuú model and actress, Patricia Velàsquez. A main part of her website for the foundation includes an online store that features some amazing and authentic products – the main focus being bags. The stunning sussu and morroa bags both showcase a variety of stunning patterns and designs that reflect on the fascinating culture of the Wayuú people. Screen Shot 2012-12-23 at 01.18.49

With all of the products at fair prices, you can also purchase some cards, decorated with adorable holiday drawings by the Wayuú children! The bags, handmade by Wayuú women, are all one-of-a-kind, and are made to try and get the best possible match to the image shown – even though there is no guarantee of an exact replica. Screen Shot 2012-12-23 at 01.21.05

The vibrant and colourful bags are made with intricate aztec-like patterns, and are perfect to add the fun factor to any outfit. With all of the proceeds going to such an amazing cause, why refuse? Be generous this Christmas by treating yourself, or a loved one, and see the wise money spent go to a wonderful cause… You know you want to!
