Winter skin care tips to keep you looking gorgeous

Winter skin care tips to keep you looking gorgeous

Here at The Upcoming we know what a nuisance the cold weather can be for your beauty regime. A ten-minute walk at this time of year can leave your skin red, blotchy and dry. To help avoid this misfortunate event, we have come up with five skin care secrets that will make you forget all about the harsh weather outside.

1.     Lemon Water

It is more important than ever that you are keeping hydrated when the cold weather can leave your skin dry. It is recommend that we drink 1.2 liters of fluids a day. Naturally, one of the best drinks to opt for is water. However, if you add the juice of half a lemon to a glass of water from time to time you will begin to see improvements in your skin. With the extra boost of vitamin C, lemon water assists in cleansing your body of toxins helping to leave your skin clear and refreshed.

2.    Exfoliate

We know that the temptation to skip exfoliating in the winter is hard when you are usually covered up in chunky knits and coats. However, the cold air can make your skin dry and flaky. Using a body scrub two to three times a week will help eliminate those unsightly patches of dryness. As skin tends to be more sensitive in the winter, opt for a gentle exfoliator such as Melvita Extra-Gentle Body Scrub.

3.    Moisturise

This might seem like an obvious one, but it is the most important. To keep your skin glowing and hydrated it is crucial that you keep it well moisturised. If you have naturally oily skin, go for a light, oil-free moisturiser such as the Fashion Fair Oil-Free Moisturiser. If you have naturally dry skin, opt for a heavier moisturiser such as Burt’s Bees Sensitive Daily Moisturising Cream with ingredients to reduce redness.

4.    SPF

You might think that because it is winter you don’t need to pay attention to SPF. It is advised that we wear at least an SPF15 every day of the year – come rain or shine. SPF is proven to help stop the effects of the weather on aging your skin. If you find that the cold is causing your lips to become dry, invest in an SPF lip balm such as Eco Lips. 5.

5.  Beauty sleep

It is generally thought that eight hours sleep a night should be sufficient to keep our bodies at their healthiest. Sleep deprivation can raise stress levels and stop the skin hydrating itself in the way that it should. This can leave your skin looking dull and dry. Getting your beauty sleep is therefore more important in the winter than ever!
