Award-winning Indian restaurant Babur, in Forest Hill, has joined forces with local social enterprise Kinship Kitchen to address food poverty through a new culinary initiative this February. From Monday 2nd to Sunday 28th, Babur will offer a limited-edition, five-course plant-based tasting menu, replacing its usual vegetarian menu for the month. The collaboration aims to raise funds and awareness for Kinship Kitchen’s community projects, with 5% of each meal sold donated to the social enterprise and Babur pledging to match the total donation at the end of the month.

The special selection, priced at £49.95 per person, is available for both lunch and dinner at the restaurant on Brockley Rise. The dishes have been developed in partnership between Babur’s executive chef Jiwan Lal and the Kinship Kitchen team, drawing inspiration from the organisation’s own recipes, which are typically used to support their community catering work. The menu is described as featuring “bold Indian spices and flavours” with Babur’s “signature modern twists”.

Emdad Rahman, founder of Babur, commented on the partnership: “This collaboration is especially close to our hearts. At its core, Babur has always been guided by a deep-rooted commitment to our local South East London community. Working with Kinship Kitchen – an organisation dedicated to reducing food poverty and building stronger communities through food – felt like a natural partnership, an opportunity for Babur to give back.”

Kinship Kitchen, a Community Interest Company based in South London, works to support kinship families and other local groups through community cooking sessions, clubs and food surplus initiatives. Their projects are aimed at tackling food poverty, reducing social isolation and fostering community connections. Anna-Lou Manca, founder and director of Kinship Kitchen, said: “Working alongside Babur’s chefs was a genuinely inspiring experience for our team. Their deep social consciousness and the example they set for how businesses can support their communities made this project especially meaningful, and the funds raised will make a real difference to the people supported by Kinship Kitchen.”

Babur, established in 1985, has received recognition for its approach to regional Indian cuisine, including two AA Rosettes and the title of Best Restaurant 2025 at the Mayor of Lewisham Awards. The restaurant has stated its intention to continue supporting local causes through such partnerships.
