Another year of awards pass us by, with many films of this year picking up multiple awards. With sources reporting that over 5.85 million viewers tuned in, the BAFTA Awards 2013, hosted by EE, screened to the biggest audience since 2004.

With Hollywood’s elite of the film industry arriving in London, draped in designer evening wear, many of the guests were greeted with rain and snow: a true welcome, London style. With most attendees soaked through, the hopeful A-listers made their way to London’s Royal Opera House to hear the winners announced.

The most notable winner of the BAFTA Awards 2013 is Ben Affleck, winning best director and best film for Argo, over films Les Miserables and Life of Pi, awarded by Sir Ian Mckellen. Congratulated by producer partner, George Clooney, Affleck said: “I was talking to people from the studio and they were like ‘We never win!’ so this really is the most incredible surprise”.

James Bond film, Skyfall, reclaims its glory after being overlooked at the Oscar awards nominations taking home best British film. Collecting his award from Bradley Cooper and Ben Affleck, producer and screenwriter Michael G Wilson told the star-studded crowd: “This is a first for Bond.”

A successful year of film in 2012, with many well deserved recognitions. Another great year for the BAFTA awards, and another year of exciting cinema. Until next time, we only hope the weather is more kind to our A-List friends from across the pond.
