Tom Kerridge unveils Georgie’s Bar as Kerridge’s restaurant reopens at Corinthia London
Chef Tom Kerridge will open Georgie’s Bar, a new watering hole at the Corinthia London on Northumberland Avenue, on the first Saturday of September, at the same time as he relaunches his redesigned restaurant at the hotel. The two spaces sit side by side, with the bar taking a prominent position and the dining room reduced to a more intimate 57 covers behind a velvet partition.
Georgie’s Bar has its own drinks list and food menu, covering spirits, wines, beers and ales from the UK and elsewhere. The draught selection includes a lager, a Hazy Pale and an IPA from Rebellion, produced at the Marlow Brewery, which has a long association with Kerridge’s pubs. The bar has a Martini club that offers four Martinis served from the freezer: Dry, Wet, Dirty and the Steak – the last a version of a Gibson finished with a house-smoked pickled onion. Classic cocktails on the list are a French 75, a Cosmopolitan, the Tommy’s Margarita, a Hemingway Daiquiri, a Negroni, an Old Fashioned, a Manhattan and an Espresso Martini.
The bar menu runs from snacks such as pork scratchings, beef jerky, frickles and buttermilk fried chicken to larger plates like a Cheeseburger with BBQ brisket, Pink Shellfish Brioche Rolls with Bloody Marie-Rose Sauce and Haddock Fritters with Matson Sauce (a variation on Kerridge’s Fish and Chips).
The name of the venue refers to Georgie, Kerridge’s Boxer dog, whose paw print was left in wet concrete during the laying of the floor at The Hand & Flowers in Marlow. The print also became an emblem of the London restaurant and now appears in details across both spaces.
Meanwhile, Kerridge’s first opened in 2018 as Kerridge’s Bar & Grill, closing this summer for refurbishment. On reopening, the team will continue their seasonal, produce-led British cooking, with head chef Tom Childs running the kitchen day to day in partnership with Kerridge.
The restaurant’s à la carte starters include a Crab Crumpet with Isot Biber Chilli, Shrimp Mayonnaise and Fennel Salad and an Orkney Scallop Pie with Prawn, Nduja and Crab Sauce. Mains range from Fillet of John Dory with Sea Vegetables and Green Peppercorn Sauce to Whole Cornish Lobster Thermidor with Fine Herbs and Sauce Américaine and a Venison Bun with Matson Curry Sauce. For dessert there’s Gary Rhodes’s Bread and Butter Pudding with Chocolate Ice Cream and a Passion Fruit Posset with Meringue and Mint. A traditional weekly Sunday lunch that centres on Roast Ribeye of Beef with Stuffed Yorkshire Pudding, Roast Potatoes, Red Cabbage and Horseradish Cream.
The Chef’s Larder, where guests select cuts of meat before they are cooked to order, remains part of the offering. Steaks come in the form of a 28-day dry-aged ribeye, a sirloin on the bone, a fillet on the bone and a 1kg côte de boeuf, with the selection changing according to availability.
The wine list combines Riesling, Chenin Blanc and Gamay with less common varieties including Koshu, Tsitska, Rotgipfler, Syrian Bargylus and Peruvian Tannat. A private dining room seats up to 16.
The two spaces’ interiors use leather, dark timber, marble, brass and patterned flooring, with burgundy leather and marble-topped tables in the restaurant and navy, warm gold and antique brass in the bar. Georgie’s Bar houses Steve, a full-size bronze figure of a man in a suit by sculptor Beth Cullen-Kerridge, the chef’s wife. There are more works by Cullen-Kerridge on display, as well as pieces from gallerists West Contemporary, including by painters Chris Moon, Jim Threapleton, Carne Griffiths and Peter Ceredig-Evans, photographer P Gerard Barker and sculptor Mark Beattie. Mixed-media artist Robi Walters has made two bespoke tabletops from menus sent in by members of the public via Kerridge’s social media channels. A DJ will play in the bar on Saturday evenings.
Tom Childs commented: “It’s incredibly exciting to be reopening Kerridge’s and to introduce Georgie’s Bar alongside it. Kerridge’s has been such an important part of my career since I joined in 2019, so seeing the restaurant evolve while staying true to what we’ve always stood for is really special. The food is still all about great British produce, proper cooking and generous flavours, but we’ve created a more intimate feel in the restaurant and a completely new way to experience what we do at Georgie’s. Whether coming in for dinner, dropping by for a Martini or a beer, or settling in for the evening, we want both spaces to feel relaxed, welcoming and unmistakably Kerridge’s.”
