LFW – Peter Pilotto A/W 2013 collection

Spanish renaissance was evidently the main inspiration for designers Peter Pilotto and Christopher de Vos at the LFW Pilotto show. One of the most anticipated shows at fashion week, the designers did not disappoint as they explored the darker side to their creativity skills. Screen Shot 2013-02-18 at 23.56.35

The Spanish inspiration came through in the bright red bolero jackets that sported brush-stroke embroidery, indicating that the designers perhaps looked to expressionist art to guide them through this season. The bold colours, from vivid yellow to electric blue, and a Valentino red with silver, were all adorned with graphic prints. As can be similarly related to Mary Katrantzou, Pilotto is quite well known for his use of prints, so these bold graphics came as no surprise. Screen Shot 2013-02-18 at 23.56.48

This show also provided a sharper, tailored look – something we haven’t often seen at Pilotto, but it is safe to say that the new silhouette that was provided for them was a successful move. The oversizing that has been a regular on this season’s LFW shows was provided in the graphic prints – a more daring move for those who wish to work the trend with some oomph. Screen Shot 2013-02-18 at 23.57.11

Peplums – as we’re all aware – have been a key trend for the past few seasons, and Pilotto decided to keep some peplum detailing in the designs. However, as he was having an experimental season, Pilotto kept this through with furry interludes, and very “old school” puffa jackets – as bulky as ever. Screen Shot 2013-02-18 at 23.58.36

The collection included a lot of experimentation, all about exploration and progression. It is evident that the designers who made it to the BFC/Vogue fashion fund shortlist this year, are an amazing, inspiring and creative design duo. Who knows, maybe they’ll even win the fund next year…
