Jewellery by Emilie Morris, the best designer you’ve never heard of

There are countless cool East London based jewellery designers that you may or may not have heard of and I’m sure lots of them are great. But Emilie Morris isn’t just great, she’s inspired and unique. Her pieces aren’t just generic “on-trend” knick knacks pumped out en masse for the identikit cool kids. They are beautifully crafted, original works of subtle style that bring an understated edge to the wearer and will never date.

Emilie studied jewellery design at Brighton College before moving to Hackney and launching her first collection, Animal Study, from her studio in Ridley Road market, Dalston in 2008. Featuring animal skulls hewn from sterling silver and plated with gold and black rhodium, Animal Study is graphic collection celebrating life and death, ranging from the delicate – cat tooth stud earrings – to the dramatic – a life-size turkey skull necklace. The latter a perfect cast of what is a robust and yet surprisingly beautiful showpiece.

Her latest collection, Shield, demonstrates Emilie’s reluctance to be pigeonholed. A complete departure from Animal Study, Shield is comprised of solid, seamless shapes evoking feelings of strength and protection. Angular silver designs hang on delicate chains which are in stark contrast with the weighty, modular appeal of the charms they support. Having already seen her work appear on the pages of such a prestigious style bible as Italian Vogue, Emilie Morris can rest assured her future is a bright one.
