Sunita Mukhi: a collection worth keeping an eye on

If there’s something a woman can’t overlook, it is her bag. It’s not a simple accessory; it carries her whole life. Whether they’re functional or thought to be worn on special occasions, bags are what say the most about a woman.

Sunita Mukhi shares this view and made a point of honour in delivering special products that represent different kinds of women. Her latest collection Evil Eye shows Mukhi’s background in the textile industry, where she was exposed to the culture luxurious fabrics. The collection, made up of clutches, envelopes and bags, is considered for elegant and special occasions.

The collection is influenced by Mukhi’s childhood always on the move; she was born in Malta and had moved to West Africa and Mumbai before settling in London. The symbol of the eye has many meanings depending on the country but, in Malta, it’s the name of a typical Maltese boat and, as the designer reveals in other interviews, it’s also a symbol fishermen carry around for protection and luck.

The designer took this symbol from popular tradition and embellished it using luxurious fabrics and bright colours. The eye-shaped-clutches (available in baby pink, jet black, canary yellow, orange, shocking pink and turquoise) present bright glitters and semi precious onyx.

The bright and summery colours stand out even more when it comes to the envelopes, where the eye is highlighted by the black background.

Several fashion personalities were seen wearing the limited collection items at Milan Fashion Week, among them Anna Dello Russo.
