Noodle and Beer launches Love It or Hate It Sichuan summer specials

Noodle and Beer, a Sichuan restaurant with branches in Spitalfields and Chinatown, has launched a bold new range of summer specials, combining seasonal British produce with traditional Sichuan flavours and cooking techniques. The new dishes are intended to appeal both to regular customers and to first-time diners willing to try less familiar flavour combinations.

The centrepiece is a seasonal main called Love It or Hate It Noodles, which the restaurant describes as a Sichuan cult classic. It comes in the form of noodles dressed with raw garlic and cured century egg, making for strong umami flavours and a creamy texture. Diners can select their preferred level of spice from three options: Hot, Very Hot or Extremely Hot.

The small bites offering has also been expanded. A new addition is Ox Tongue with Shao Jiao Pesto, which is made from British ox tongue that is slow cooked and then seared, and served with a Sichuan padrón pepper pesto and tortilla chips. The Spitalfields branch will also exclusively offer Lang Ya Tu-Do, a Sichuan pork sausage accompanied by chilli-infused fries and coriander. Noodle and Beer is proud of its spicy menu, but for customers seeking milder options, there’s a range of dumplings in flavours including Beef, Truffle and Cheese, Chicken and Mushroom, Prawn and Black Fungus, Bamboo Shoot and Vermicelli, with vegetarian and vegan options provided on request.

It has not yet been announced how long the selection will stay, but they’re advertised as summer specials, so fans will want to book in soon to get their fix. Luckily, the group’s two restaurants in Spitalfields and in Chinatown mean Londoners can try the divisive dishes, whichever end of town they’re coming from.
