iamVibes celebrates its first birthday in style, La Maison Des Artistes, South Kensington

Celebrating the first birthday of iamVibes, La Maison Des Artistes in South Kensington hosted Visionary, a night of collaborative flair presented by art directing brand Grassgrass and online lifestyle guide: It’s Rude To Stare.

iamVibes is a spiritually conscious brand of on-trend apparel for men and women.  With the motto “protect and align your inner being”, iamVibes garments are stamped in references to the third eye and the hand of fatima, symbols of spiritual one-ness, good luck, and protection against evil.  T-Shirts, leotards, leggings, pins and beanies are adorned in spiritual symbols, sacred geometry and galaxy prints, perfect for the festival season.

Through an unassuming façade and down a dimly lit staircase, we entered a basement bar of subtle neon lights, velvet couches and bumping music.  DJ’s Becca Dudley, Nicholas AM and Charlotte De Carle provided eclectic tunes throughout the night to accompany the predictable flow of booze and buzz of a Friday night.  As seen at Glastonbury and Latitude, conscious orator David J. decorated the atmosphere with a Father’s Day freestyle heavily influenced by his origins in hip-hop.  Competing with loud conversations of bystanders, David managed to captivate the intellectuals with pristine focus by manipulating his voice forwards and backwards, scratching words like a vinyl.  After speaking with the poet post-performance, it was evident the artist was discouraged with the reception of his work.  How difficult it must be to get up in front of an intimate and chatty crowd of party-thirsty individuals to practically spill your soul in a lyrically rhythmic improvisation.  Assuring he was well heard and appreciated, we proceeded to tear up the dance floor while sharing thoughts on sloppy drunks and Michael Jackson.

Visionary reflected iamVibes’ mantra of unity through bringing creatives together in a collaborative environment.  Just as music and expansive and radical thinking brought people together in the seventies, due mainly to the advent of internet technology and social networking in recent years we’ve seen a return to clustering behavior. The hippie mantras of love, unity and community spirit are of particular relevance today in what have become uncertain times. This certain spirit has, and will continue to resurface as these political, social, and economic mores return to us in full circle.
