Aurelia Skincare: The power of probiotic

If it’s not the scientific approach on skincare you love, or the devotion to harmonising nature, people and beauty, then it must be the fact that the range of products that Claire Vero created, happen to be the Holy Grail itself.

Do you think you’ve made a breakthrough discovery in combining the use of scientific knowledge and quality skincare products?

Claire Vero: We pride ourselves on combining probiotic scientifically proven technology with BioOrganic ingredients and this is something that really sets us apart from other brands. Probiotics represent a new trend in skincare, and work to balance the skin and reduce inflammation which helps to prevent accelerated ageing. I am proud to say Aurelia is free from synthetic fragrances, parabens, mineral oils, silicones, sulphates, propylene glycol, phthalates, GMO, PEGs, TEA and DEA. I was also determined that we wouldn’t compromise on quality.

What is it that strives you to ensure that your whole business is natural and ethical, and that your products are naturally sourced and cruelty free?

It was always an important part of Aurelia and something that I feel strongly about. There isn’t a need to have cosmetics tested on animals. We are also supporting Cruelty Free International which is now trying to challenge the laws outside of the EU. We use not-for-profit organisations to source our botanical ingredients; last year I visited Lake Malawi for a research trip and met the communities that harvest Baobab and Kigalia Africana for us. We made a film to show the harvesting process and how the communities benefit.

Know any miracle skin-perfection routines?

Cleansing is the foundation of great skin. Ensuring your make-up is fully removed before bed and that your skin can breathe is essential. Avoid foaming cleansers which often contain sulphates which can strip your skin of natural oils and cause an imbalance and Transepidermal water loss. Ensure you lightly exfoliate whilst cleansing for at least three times a week. Avoid using silicones and petrochemicals. These are cheap ingredients that alter your skin’s ability to process toxins and can cause blocked pores and irritation.

Eye revitalising duo – how did you make this breakthrough discovery?

We ran a number of focus groups initially asking women what they look for in their eye products and we heard resoundingly that reducing puffiness and dark circles was crucial, but also crow’s feet round the eye. I then looked at finding an eye complex that would complement our existing probiotic technology to address these issues. The complex contains jujube and olive extract and has been scientifically proven to result in an age-correction improvement of five years in just 28 days of daily use.

Should everyone relish the powers of “good bacteria”?

Evidence on the benefits of probiotics is really building; they are amazing! Probiotics work in a different way in skincare – they are not “live” and when utilised effectively can help to prevent accelerated skin ageing. We use immune modulatory glycoproteins from bifido bacteria to generate targeted responses in the skin, balancing stress-damaged skin and stabilising the skin’s defence system. So, in short, yes, everyone should relish!

In addition to their existing products, Aurelia offer Christmas gifts, and facials are opening in Liberty, London next year.

We can safely say that after experiencing the power of probiotics, we are never turning back.
