Selfridges has unveiled its autumn/winter 2014 creative project, The Masters – an exploration of the originators, pioneers and provocateurs that shape the fashion landscape.

12 of fashion’s most accomplished designers, with a “specific mastercraft,” have created an exclusive piece or collection that encapsulates their signature style. In addition, each brand will have a dedicated window display inspired by a film narrative or genre – from sci-fi to film noir – in the coveted Oxford Street store.

Introducing The Masters:

Azzedine Alaïa, the master of architecture
Dries Van Noten, the master of the eclectic
Jean Paul Gaultier, the master of expression
Jun Takahashi of Undercover, the master of subversion
Marc Jacobs, the master of mood
Oscar de la Renta, the master of elegance
Paul Smith, the master of inspiration
Rick Owens, the master of the elements
Roberto Cavalli, the master of glamour
Thom Browne, the master of showmanship
Stella McCartney, the master of modernity
Yohji Yamamoto, the master of defiance

To coincide with the collaborations, SHOWstudio has produced a captivating fashion film that captures the creative vision of each “master.”

Further celebrating the relationship between style and screen, Selfridges has partnered with Everyman to launch the world’s first department store cinema. Over the next six months, alongside this season’s must-see movies, there will be screenings of the designers’ favourite films, accommodating just under 100 viewers a time.

Rick Owens will also be honoured with its own domain, The World of Rick, housing an exclusive 20-piece capsule collection, a new women’s and men’s ready-to-wear and accessories destination, and a takeover of four Oxford Street store windows. Finally, a 25ft Rick Owens statue will sit above the iconic Selfridges London canopy.

The Masters launches at Selfridges in London and online on 21st August.
