Modern British eatery and bar Lanes of London, located at London Marriott Hotel Park Lane, played host to A Gentleman’s Evening last night, bringing together expert craftsmen under one roof to showcase the luxury and sophistication of Mayfair. The evening was held in conjunction with London’s grooming club the Refinery and award-winning international lifestyle concierge Ten Group and introduced high-end services to delight and entertain. From bespoke suit tailors and shoe polish artisans, to purveyors of fine accessories for gentleman, the evening conjured up old-style grooming and brought to life the elegance of a lost time.

Alongside the many services on offer, guests were also given the opportunity to sample Lanes of London’s new menu, in the form of an impressive and eye-catching display of sweet and savoury canapés. Specialising in seasonal ingredients, the eatery uses locally sourced British rare-breed and wild food produce to create a flavourful menu which combines classic flavours.

From the selection of savoury canapés, the pan-seared scallops, served with cauliflower purée and sliced radish for texture, were fresh and well-cooked, while the beef teriyaki, served on skewers with peppercorns and grilled bell peppers showcased the quality of the meat on offer at the restaurant.

The selection of sweet canapés was elegant and vast enough to excite any sweet tooth, with beautifully hand-crafted bite-size mouthfuls. The lemon tartlets stood out from their competitors with a short and crumbly pastry case, generously filled with a sweet and tangy lemon curd and topped with a marshmallow-like Swiss meringue. Wafer-thin pastry cases filled with a chocolate ganache and topped with crushed nuts and a sticky tuile raised the game, while the restaurant’s offering of a raspberry gel topped crème brulée, although missing the expected crunch of burnt sugar, did little else to disappoint.

Gentleman or not, be sure to pay Lanes of London a visit if passing by to enjoy some high-quality produce and interesting food pairings, while taking in the splendour of this 5-star rated hotel.
