A surprisingly sparse crowd was seated at the Skylight at Moynihan Station in New York City. The surprise on the runway that awaited them was something for the masses. Comme Tu Es, a company founded in China, specialises in innovative streetwear for clientele of all ages – literally. A runway show ensued with updated and chic urban wear modeled by an age range of models as young as five. A refreshing twist on the classic New York Fashion Week show, child models as well as industry standard models presented an exciting and energy-packed showcase of youthful prints, unique fabrics, and contemporary cuts for spring/summer 2017.

The show opened with a definite Asian-flair. Animation-style graffiti prints dominated the collection, covering everything from track suit tops to children’s jackets. Models came out paired with racer helmets bearing the company’s gorilla logo.

A buzz came over the audience every time a pint-sized model made their way sheepishly down the runway, but with a subtle air of fascination. One such model wore a sporty white jacket with a white netting ruff adorning the shoulders.

Many models walked with ski-goggles on their forehead, giving a functional and sport-like edge to the collection. Simple black and white and modern patterned fabric, served as a simple pallet to let individual pieces shine.

Sportswear and streetwear eventually gave way to a smattering of bedazzled blouses and the occasional high-low gown. Black perforated netting skirts were updated by being paired with converse sneakers and striped tees.

A matching white gown with crystal embellishments was modeled by a pint-sized counterpart to stunning effect.
Both menswear and womenswear was shown with a contemporary and functional edge. The addition of child models walking their final walk two-by-two with their adult counterparts added exciting and youthful energy to the show’s overall effect

Following the final look, the designer, a former model herself, made her way down the runway with a model in a giant gorilla suit, a representation of the brand’s logo. Altogether, a fun and spirited show full of the “come as you are” spirit.
