From TV to table: MasterChef finalists to host rooftop supper club at the Southbank Centre this summer

This summer, instead of watching mouth-watering episodes of Masterchef, you can experience the dishes firsthand at the Jam Shed Supper Club, where six of the hit show’s finalists will be cooking up some of their favourite plates. Located on the rooftop of London’s iconic Southbank centre, this pop-up offers a chance to soak up the rest of the summer sun as well as tasting the exciting new recipes of some of Britain’s best up-and-coming chefs.

Former contestants Steve Kielty, Nawamin Pinpathomrat, David Crichton, Alexandra Jorge, George Kallias and Emma Spitzer have each crafted a unique menu for guests to enjoy as part of an exclusive dining experience. Alongside sharing dishes and small plates,  the famous Jam Shed Shiraz will be available in a selection of wine-based cocktails, the perfect seasonal aperitif. The chefs in attendance will offer a diverse array of culinary influences, each bringing their signature style to the St Paul’s Pavilion on the top floor of Royal Festival Hall.

Communal in nature, the event will encourage people to share in the feast on offer, which will include Nawamin’s Thai-influenced dishes, Alex and George’s “Portu-Greek” cooking and Kielty’s more locally inspired cured trout and Herefordshire brisket. The latter finalist notes that the nature of his work at the venue is very different to that of his previous visit: “Last time I came here it was in my capacity as a professional sound engineer to see DJ musician Goldie perform his Timeless album with the Heritage Orchestra in 2015. Never in a million years did I imagine three years on I’d be fronting up a pop-up supper club, on the top floor, cooking and playing my favourite summer tunes to a room full of hungry and hopefully, musically like-minded diners”.

On top of being a great night out, the supper club supports The Springboard Charity, which brings disadvantaged and underprivileged people into sustainable employment within hospitality, leisure and tourism. Trainees at the organisation will be working with contestants throughout the event to learn the skills of the industry as well as providing a wonderful service.

The six chefs will be in residence on the following dates:

  • 24th July – 4th August: Steve Kielty
  • 7th August – 11th August: Nawamin Pinpathomrat
  • 14th August – 18th August: David Crichton
  • 21st August – 25th August: Alex Jorge and George Kallias
  • 28th August – 1st September: Emma Spitzer
  • 4th September – 8th September: Alex Jorge and George Kallias
